Clochard's father, the Holsteiner sire Calypso II, was leased several years by the State Stud in Celle and produced there many licensed stallions and successful jumping horses.

Clochard's mother, HStBSt. Aphrodite, got 13 foals in 15 breeding years and passed on the genes of her outstanding father Absatz.

Clochard was sold as a colt to the State Stud in Celle and was raised at Hunnesrück.

Clochard finished his 100-day-test in Adelheidsdorf and was then sold as a jumper to Spruce Meadows, Canada.
